Home / LLC vs sole proprietorship
General guide
A sole proprietorship is a business you run in your own name. An LLC is a separate legal entity that you form with the state.
An LLC can keep business debts apart from your personal assets. A sole proprietorship cannot.
A sole proprietorship needs no state filing to start. An LLC needs a filing and a fee.
A single member LLC is taxed as its owner, by default.
